Jaws of Hakkon

Every second's soaked in sadness, every weekend is a war, and I'm drowning in the déjà vu, we've seen it all before.

AKA:
Hakkonites

The Jaws of Hakkon were a radical sect of Avvar who were dedicated to conquering the areas surrounding the Frostback Mountains. Twice. The first time the Jaws appeared was during the Second Blight, around 800 years ago. They had abandoned the rest of their deities to solely worship Hakkon Wintersbreath, god of war and winter, and planned to use him as their main weapon. The Jaws succeeded in summoning him and binding him to a dragon, but their plan was interrupted by Ameridan, the last leader of the original Inquisition. My predecessor couldn’t kill the beast, but managed to use time magic to trap himself and the Drakkon, freezing them in place. Centuries later, a new group of Avvar, disillusioned by their gods’ lack of intervention when their hold was destroyed by the Fifth Blight, decided to recycle their ancestors’ plan and returned to Frostback Basin. Unfortunately for them, and anyone who does not believe that history repeats itself, the Inquisition had also re-risen and stepped in to stop them again. The Jaws had reached an agreement to coexist with the local residents, the Stone-Bear Clan, but almost immediately betrayed them and kidnapped their hold-beast, Storvacker. They intended to use the bear as Hakkon’s new host, but we freed her before they could perform the ritual. Desperate, their leader, Gurd Harofsen, tried to bind their god to himself, but we interrupted that, too. And by “interrupted,” I mean “killed everybody.” Without a leader, the Inquisition was able to easily eliminate the remaining Jaws of Hakkon, hopefully for good this time.
