The Hissing Wastes
The Hissing Wastes
The wind in the wasteland is howling, it's the wailing of ghosts of the past.
The Hissing Wastes is yet another piece of the deserts of western Orlais with problems that warranted a good inquisiting. Part of the massive wasteland that is also home to the Forbidden Oasis and Western Approach, the Wastes are due west of Skyhold, just very far away. This particular bit was vast and barren, as you’d expect, but with a few actual topographical features to mix things up a bit. It sits in the shadow of the nearby Sunstop Mountains, and there is a large canyon running through the middle, both of which broke up the monotony of endless dunes a bit. As did the presence of an ancient dwarven thaig that was built on the surface, which is something that doesn’t really exist anywhere else. Apparently an ancient Paragon named Fairel had fled from a vicious underground civil war and created the unprecedented city with his children. The reason the Inquisition was there was, like the other pieces of desert we visited, the Venatori. They were interested in the ruins scattered in both the lowlands and higher in the hills, and were working slaves to death to get at them. So, we obviously hit them hard and with a vengeance, rescuing as many people as we could. I’m proud to say we were very successful in that endeavor, and shut their operation down permanently. My favorite part of the Hissing Wastes by far was a shop nestled in the aforementioned canyon. A shop that, when we were there, was being run by a dog. A dog who could give you exact change. There’s more I could probably say about this place, but I’m just going to end this entry with that, there’s nowhere to go but downhill from there.
