The Arbor Wilds

Thought it was a nightmare, lord, it's all so true, they told me, don't go walking slow, the devil's on the loose. Better run through the jungle, don't look back to see.

A vast, relatively unexplored forest in the deep south of Orlais, the Arbor Wilds was the site of one of the most pivotal battles the Inquisition fought. Not to be confused with the Korcari Wilds, which is a swamp in the same southern spot, just in Ferelden on the other side of the Frostback Mountains, the Arbor Wilds is a unique place that is largely uncharted. A different type of forest than the many that I’ve visited, it is still very green, but thicker, more stifling, and full of odd plants and animals not found in those other wooded areas. The whole place just felt different, there’s no other real way to say it. Not many who go into the wilds to explore come out alive, and there are untold numbers of ancient elven ruins hidden in its depths. One of these is the Temple of Mythal that Corypheus desperately wanted to find after most of his other plans had been foiled, but the Inquisition and another force stymied his efforts to reach it. The temple was home to possibly the last group of Sentinels, ancient elves that had guarded the area for thousands of years, and they did their best to stop anyone, including us, from entering the temple. Though they were ultimately unsuccessful, they allied with us to deny Cory his prize and the Inquisition triumphed, crushing the vast majority of his remaining armies. Though he managed to escape, the Arbor Wilds was the place where Corypheus’ dreams of conquest effectively ended.
