Skyhold

I will find my way, I can go the distance, I'll be there someday, if I can be strong. I know every mile will be worth my while, I would go most anywhere to find where I belong.

Skyhold is an ancient castle in the Frostback Mountains that acted as the home of the Inquisition after the destruction of Haven. Built centuries ago by humans, it sits on a mountain that was once used by elves to hold magical rituals when their civilization ruled the surface of Thedas. Erected to protect a remote mountain pass, it has been occupied by everything from humans to a mage to dwarves, each adding their own touches before relinquishing their holds on the hold. It sat disused for several centuries before the Inquisition took ownership of it shortly after Corypheus' attack on Haven. Solas was familiar with its location and guided us through the mountains to the mostly intact fortress. Though there was plenty of damage to be repaired, the bones of the structure were still remarkably unbroken. This was due to its solid construction and the fact that the aforementioned elven rituals had imbued the mountain itself with magic, and that magic had slowly seeped into the very stones of Skyhold and protected it from harm. Sitting as it does on top of a mountain, it is easy to spot any potential invaders long before they arrive, and there is only one route in and out of the castle. These factors, combined with the repairs and improvements implemented by the Inquisition, turned Skyhold into a truly impressive and nigh-impregnable fortress. And, in the end, nobody ever challenged us there directly. This relative peace allowed Skyhold to serve as a site of comfortable respite for the people of the Inquisition. In addition to a library, stables, and all of the areas you would expect to be in a castle, it was also home to merchants, a tavern, a tower for the mages after they moved in, and even a nice garden where I planted rare herbs that could help in my inquisiting. Skyhold also, to my delight, acted as a source of RaMOs, with various types of banners, thrones, and other decor scattered around the continent for me to find. Remember, a RaMO has to fill two of the three criteria, and while not magical, these decorations were scattered randomly around the continent and were definitely objects. Skyhold ended up being the perfect headquarters for the Inquisition, a centrally located, defensible stronghold that was safe enough to be a refuge from the fight against Corypheus. If we ever end up vacating it for whatever reason, it will always be fondly remembered as our, and my, home.
