Adamant Fortress
Adamant Fortress
This is building to an adamant conclusion, come whatever may, there's going to be a day when we have figured out a plausible solution.
Guarding the south of Orlais from darkspawn and demons for hundreds of years, Adamant Fortress was a significant stronghold of the Grey Wardens. Built for the Wardens by dwarves after the Second Blight, it sits on the edge of the Abyssal Rift in the Western Approach, which is where the darkspawn mainly crawled out of during that blight. Once home to hundreds of Wardens and their griffon mounts, lessening need for the castle and increasing costs to maintain it eventually led them to abandon it over a century ago. Because of its quality construction, Adamant remained a hardy citadel until the Wardens retook it shortly after all of the Orlesian Wardens heard the Calling and were convinced to execute a ridiculous plan by Corypheus and the Venatori agent Erimond. Unfortunately, the Inquisition had to storm the castle in order to end this potential threat, doing significant damage to Adamant in the process. More destruction occurred when Eri summoned Cory’s dragon in desperation, and it wantonly attacked in an attempt to kill me. After the Inquisition won the battle and recruited the Wardens, I sent Bull’s Chargers to tear down what remained of Adamant. There was no point in rebuilding the ancient castle anymore, and it would have only been a problem waiting to happen. Though it was necessary, it is always sad to lose such a storied place, even if Adamant will always live on in the tales of the Wardens and their wars against the darkspawn.
