Flemeth

We do what we must because we can, for the good of all of us, except the ones who are dead.

{Another warning about ruiners here, Flemeth’s entry contains many shocking revelations not only about her, but other entries as well. So, proceed with caution. -Sam}

AKA:
The Witch of the Wilds
Morrigan's Mother
The Eldest One
Asha’bellanar
Flemthal {I thought about "Flemythal," but then it wouldn't be a true portmanteau.}

The seemingly immortal Flemeth is an ancient, powerful being known as the Witch of the Wilds. She has been alive for centuries, hidden away in the Korcari Wilds of southern Ferelden. Throughout her life she has had numerous daughters, including Morrigan, though they generally lack the infamy of their mother. The stories about her that have accumulated over the years are vast, varied, and mostly untrue, though she has involved herself in the affairs of the continent on more than one occasion. Usually, and currently, as I can’t say what she looked like before I was alive, she appears in the form of a human woman, but is capable of taking at least one other shape, that of a dragon. But, knowing Morrigan’s abilities, it is safe to assume Flemeth can turn into plenty of other animals, as well. Her story begins hundreds of years ago, when Flemeth was a normal woman who killed her new husband after the man killed her former lover and, while hiding in the Korcari Wilds, merged with the spirit of the elven goddess Mythal. Hundreds of years followed, but most of Flemeth’s actual deeds during that time are shrouded in mystery. Thanks to Morrigan, I do know that, at the beginning of the Fifth Blight, it was Flemeth and her daughter that saved the Hero of Ferelden and Alistair from Ostagar and set them on their path to unite Ferelden and stop the darkspawn. Morrigan, who had been sent with the Grey Warden pair to assist them, eventually found out her mother’s secret to immortality: she took over her the bodies of her daughters. Morrigan convinced the HoF, now her lover, to kill Flemeth in order to stop this cycle. He was successful in his assassination, but Flemeth soon reappeared across the Waking Sea. In exchange for assisting Hawke and her family as they escaped from the Fifth Blight, Flemeth had asked that the future Champion of Kirkwall take an amulet with her and give it to the Keeper of a nearby Dalish clan. After the jewelry was handed over and a ritual performed, Flemeth emerged, alive and well, from a piece of herself stored inside. She flew off, not to be seen again until I encountered her. When Morrigan’s son, Kieran, suddenly went missing, his mother and I pursued him through Skyhold’s eluvian and found the boy in the Fade with his grandmother. During this revelatory conversation, Flemeth admitted that she was, indeed, Mythal, that Morrigan had never been in danger from her because her spirit could not enter an unwilling host, and then she removed the Old God soul that Kieran had been carrying inside of him. That was my only interaction with her, and there have been no reports of her since. But Flemeth doesn’t die easily and has made a habit of popping up at important moments in history, so I wouldn’t be surprised if, sooner or later, she does so again.

I'm not even angry, I'm being so sincere right now, even though you broke my heart and killed me.
