Briala
Danger is the game she plays, and she holds every card, 'cause if you wanna win, you gotta spy hard!
AKA:
The Empress' Right Hand
Elven, Orlesian Leliana
Wait, That's Not Hair?
Maybe Doesn't Have a Face
Briala is a woman of many titles who has probably advanced the furthest of any elf ever to play the Game of Orlais. Taught to play from a young age by her parents, Briala has been a part of the political machinations of the Empire since she was a small girl. She grew up as the handmaiden to Celene Valmont, who would later become the Empress, and the two became extremely close during their time together. During this period, Briala established a network of spies that fed her information from her potential rivals. After losing her mother and father to the Game and later becoming estranged from Celene in the early days of the Orlesian civil war, Briala organized an elven resistance to sabotage the forces of both the Empress and Grand Duke Gaspard. She was invited to Halamshiral for the grand ball/peace talks as an Ambassador of the elves. Celene hoped to regain the favor of her former lover and Briala wished to improve the lives of her people. During the party, she introduced herself to me as I investigated the disappearance of several elven servants in the Winter Palace’s gardens. During the course of the night, I discovered evidence that both Briala and the Empress still held feelings for one another, and eventually the two reconciled. Celene was still the Empress, and alive, and Briala returned to her position as Spymaster and was elevated to a Marquise. This ascendance is unprecedented in Orlais, and hopefully Briala uses her station to advance the cause of elves across the Empire and beyond.
