Ameridan
With a bit of a mind flip, you're into a time slip, and nothing can ever be the same.
AKA:
Dan
The Original Inquisitor
My Inquisitor Brother from Another Mother
Just Me in the Past?
Ameridan was the last leader of the first Inquisition who mysteriously disappeared 800 years ago. Much of the information about him had been forgotten over the centuries, but he was known to have been a prolific dragon slayer and personal friend of Kordillus Drakon, the first emperor of Orlais. Though the emperor tried to search for his friend, the Second Blight interfered, and the Inquisitor was lost to time. The current Inquisition assisted Bram Kenric, a professor at the University of Orlais, after he discovered evidence of Ameridan’s final mission in Frostback Basin. My predecessor had traveled there to stop an Avvar clan called the Jaws of Hakkon from summoning their god of war, Hakkon Wintersbreath, in the form of a dragon to wreak havoc on the lowlands, namely the Orlesian Empire. Our investigation led us to revelation after revelation about Ameridan, from his eclectic group of companions to the fact that he was an elf, not a human, and finally that he wasn’t actually dead. He had been unable to outright kill the god-dragon, so he had trapped it, along with himself, in some sort of time-stopping spell. And there they sat, frozen, for 800 years, until a new clan of Jaws tried to enact the same scheme and had found a way into the sealed ruin that had kept the pair of ancient adversaries hidden. We entered that ruin and found the Jaws in the middle of transferring Hakkon’s spirit out of the dragon and into their leader, which disrupted Dan’s spell. After clearing the area, Dan unfroze, and briefly conversed with us before time and magic took their toll and he was finally able to rest. Meeting him, even if it was only for a few minutes, was an incredible experience for me. The two of us had so much in common that it was almost a bit scary and I hope that, if I’m ever faced with a situation like the one he found himself in at the end, I’ll also have the courage to sacrifice myself for the good of all. To be clear, I don’t want to be in that kind of situation, but in reality I am far more likely than the average person to find myself in one.
Some things never change, turn around and the time has flown. Some things stay the same, though the future remains unknown.
